When the story of this class is written, it opens with Noah Thomas at No. 171, a reach of 179 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
That Mondon Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Jack Sawyer in slot 12, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Shemar Stewart at the 44th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Alfred Collins is a better player than Round 3, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Riley Mahlman in No. 169 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Savion Williams in the 170th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Noah Thomas in the 171st pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ollie Gordon II slipping to slot 188 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Micah Morris. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
