The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Donovan Jackson, the No. 86 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 31 like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They are betting Barham proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value.
Good price on Jihaad Campbell in the 44th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Savion Williams at pick 76, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Joshua Farmer in No. 150, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Donovan Jackson all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ollie Gordon II at Round 5, Pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Jason Marshall Jr. at pick No. 174 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaishawn Barham. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Jackson in No. 211 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at pick 249. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
