This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot. The final tally is a middling C+.
Reaching for Wedig left real value on the table behind him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Abdul Carter. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in No. 38: T.J. Sanders for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Hollin Pierce at Round 3, Pick 5 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jihaad Campbell at slot 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Ozzy Trapilo at the 105th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Sonny Styles at the 111th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to pick 143, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Nazir Stackhouse at No. 189 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at Round 7, Pick 1. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Le'Veon Moss at the 220th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trey Wedig at pick 241 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Will Sheppard at slot 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
