When a board-topper like Smael Mondon Jr. slides to No. 196, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Shavon Revel Jr. at pick 25 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Jalon Walker at the 54th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Alfred Collins at No. 70 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kyren Lacy in slot 122 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Ollie Gordon II at the 237th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Hunter Wohler here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
