Some picks age like wine; Tosh Baker at pick No. 143 will need to, sitting 88 spots clear of his grade.
However the rest shakes out, Warren at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a bell-cow for the offense. A real need, handled.
Malaki Starks in pick 38 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Dylan Fairchild, who had no business lasting to the 69th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Willie Lampkin this early at the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tosh Baker at pick No. 143 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in pick 217: Jared Wilson for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trevor Etienne in No. 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Shilo Sanders at slot 238 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
