When a board-topper like Raheim Sanders slides to the 241st overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will need Truss to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at slot 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Derrick Harmon in Round 2, Pick 6 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jihaad Campbell in the 69th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had cheaper options than Charles Grant at No. 77, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Colston Loveland at the 105th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Daylen Everette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Zane Durant at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Vinson at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Davison Igbinosun in Round 6, Pick 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Xavier Truss in No. 217 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Le'Veon Moss was still sitting there in slot 220, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Raheim Sanders at pick 241 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
