You could see the war room lean forward. Nicholas Singleton at pick 217 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They will need Weaver to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Derrick Harmon at slot 38 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Jihaad Campbell still on the board at the 69th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A wild overpay on Hollin Pierce in No. 77, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ozzy Trapilo this early at the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Sonny Styles at pick 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in Round 7, Pick 1, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a running back like Raheim Sanders reach pick No. 241 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
