You build a draft on nights like this. Raheim Sanders had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Vinson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with Abdul Carter leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kenneth Grant at No. 55 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalon Walker in the 82nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Hollin Pierce at pick No. 86 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Daylen Everette at the 104th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Value said wait; Carson Vinson in pick 143 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jordan Hancock slid further than he should have, and slot 197 is lovely value for the safety. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Le'Veon Moss in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
