Call it larceny. Le'Veon Moss sat on the board until slot 217, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Every board in the league had Lundt lower, and that gap is the story. The phones were where this weekend was really won. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Derrick Harmon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Alfred Collins come to them and pounced at slot 69. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chase Lundt well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Sonny Styles at the 142nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach No. 143 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Le'Veon Moss was still sitting there in No. 217, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
