The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tate Ratledge, the No. 33 name on the board, in the Round 4 slot. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Abdul Carter in the 39th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ashton Jeanty at Round 2, Pick 11 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Wyatt Milum was still sitting there in pick 70, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Walter Nolen at the 88th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at slot 106 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tate Ratledge in pick No. 120, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Aireontae Ersery at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
