Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Patriots, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Mills left real value on the table behind him. The Brooks steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jihaad Campbell. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Elic Ayomanor at pick No. 50 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Jayden Higgins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Rylie Mills in slot 106 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hollin Pierce in pick 115, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Tahj Brooks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, CJ Dippre went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 22. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
