The Cardinals spent the pick that matters most on Carson Beck, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
That Mertz pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in pick 40, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Blake Miller in pick No. 72, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Jamon Dumas-Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Graham Mertz here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Dane Key come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyreek Chappell in No. 200 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
