Somebody in slot 159 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Nicholas Singleton, the No. 102 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If Hemingway pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Tetairoa McMillan at par in the 6th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach No. 37 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at pick 58 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Jake Majors in the 92nd pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 4, where Elic Ayomanor graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 140 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 159 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Tonka Hemingway in No. 184 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Nohl Williams at the 211th pick, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had Jake Briningstool higher than the Round 7 slot, and the tight end fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
