Nobody had Kurtis Rourke this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 51 spots to get him at pick 84. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. With wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. More want than need.
Good price on Dylan Fairchild in slot 61, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kurtis Rourke at No. 84 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jermari Harris is a better player than pick 98 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nothing to complain about; Jake Majors went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Luke Kandra went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 1. The roster fit checks out.
A curious use of the 108th pick. Wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Andrew Mukuba did not.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Daylen Everette with wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 11; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
