The Commanders clearly saw something nobody else did in Dylan Laube, taking him 44 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Milton III falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
Quinyon Mitchell at the 36th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Graham Barton at Round 2, Pick 8 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bralen Trice at slot 46 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in the 67th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Jalen McMillan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Dylan Laube in pick No. 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Theo Johnson at pick 141 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quarterback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 9 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Jha'Quan Jackson was the payoff at the 223rd pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
