The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jihaad Campbell slide 110 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
Every board in the league had Sturdivant lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a bendy edge with upside, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Shemar Stewart in the 44th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Tyleik Williams all the way to slot 78, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 150 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DJ Campbell well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Shemar Turner at the 170th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
J.Michael Sturdivant in pick 171 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Savion Williams at No. 190 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at No. 209. The roster fit checks out.
