The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Batty proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Mitchell Evans in the 46th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Ajani Cornelius in the 51st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 68 with a little surplus value in Garrett Nussmeier. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Keon Sabb in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 132 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Ricky White at pick 164, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Moose Muhammad III is a better player than slot 174 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Batty in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
