There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Reuben Fatheree II, 86 picks ahead of schedule. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ransom. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Emeka Egbuka in the 12th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jason Marshall Jr.. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trevor Etienne at pick No. 168 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Ty Hamilton at No. 170, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Lathan Ransom at pick 173 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Hayden Conner in Round 6, Pick 11 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Ollie Gordon II all the way to pick No. 209, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Reuben Fatheree II in slot 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
