If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Savion Williams at pick No. 188 is 120 spots clear of where he belonged.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. That Edwards pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
If Kaleb Johnson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a three-down runner, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Tyler Warren in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Mikail Kamara at pick 77, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Shilo Sanders at No. 113 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Garrett Dellinger at Round 5, Pick 13 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Donovan Edwards higher than the 169th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jimmy Horn Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Haynes King this early at the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Savion Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Terrance Ferguson at pick 209 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
