Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Le'Veon Moss, the No. 149 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Fairchild to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for Dylan Fairchild in the 47th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Grant in the 98th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Barrett Carter at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mason Taylor slid further than he should have, and No. 114 is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Noel in slot 148; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Keon Sabb in Round 5, Pick 26 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Clay Webb was the payoff at pick 231. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Le'Veon Moss reach Round 7, Pick 37 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
