The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Nicholas Singleton, Round 5, Pick 15, roughly 52 picks past where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Every board in the league had Spraggins lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Mukuba pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and edge rusher. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid up for Alfred Collins at No. 49 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Moore at the 98th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Andrew Mukuba in Round 3, Pick 35 leaves quarterback and edge rusher for later.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 116 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in pick No. 152, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 154 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
PJ Williams at the 224th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Javontez Spraggins at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a tight end like Jackson Hawes reach No. 251 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
