The rest of the league had time to spare on Myles Hinton; the Dolphins did not wait, grabbing him 97 spots ahead at slot 228.
The Mondon Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and edge rusher.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They went early on Alfred Collins in the 48th pick, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jihaad Campbell slid further than he should have, and pick 52 is lovely value for the linebacker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Andrew Mukuba at Round 3, Pick 20. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A surprising call. With quarterback and edge rusher still to address, they spent No. 86 on Malachi Moore, a safety they were not short of.
A straight-up fair deal on Elic Ayomanor at pick No. 98, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Evan Stewart in slot 99 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Nicholas Singleton higher than pick 115, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Addison West in the 156th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jared Wilson went about where he belonged in pick No. 197. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javontez Spraggins this early at the 223rd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Myles Hinton in No. 228 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 18: Jackson Hawes for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fentrell Cypress II at the 251st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
