The Commanders spent real capital to be 143 picks early on Barryn Sorrell, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Tuten falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Matthew Golden, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyler Baron in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ozzy Trapilo at slot 104. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the 135th pick, where Joshua Farmer graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mello Dotson in Round 5, Pick 9 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 168, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Bhayshul Tuten here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 219 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ricky White III at the Round 7 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Frazier at slot 238, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in No. 248, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Francisco Mauigoa at pick 250 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
