Somebody in the 119th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cardinals sat still while Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 42 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The cost of the McCord reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a long-term starter on the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ashton Gillotte in pick No. 49, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jack Sawyer all the way to slot 80, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kyle McCord at the 154th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
