There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Collin Oliver a full 54 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Noel makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Bottom line, with Kelvin Banks Jr. leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Booker went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 7. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 45 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Tre Harris graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Noel at No. 77. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Oluwafemi Oladejo in pick No. 106 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Bhayshul Tuten in pick No. 144; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Jermari Harris enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 217. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davin Vann well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Collin Oliver in the 238th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
