Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Demetrius Knight Jr. got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at pick 113.
The cost of the Ewers reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quinn Ewers at the 47th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 14 with a little surplus value in Jayden Higgins. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Demetrius Knight Jr. was still sitting there in pick No. 113, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It fills a real need, too.
Vernon Broughton at the 151st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
