There is reaching, and then there is Steven Parker at the 209th overall pick. The Cowboys jumped the board by 113 and dared it to prove them wrong. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Getting Stutsman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to the Round 1 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyleik Williams at No. 49 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalon Walker in the 55th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in slot 76, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in the 86th overall pick: Omarr Norman-Lott for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Tez Johnson at pick No. 118 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Devin Neal at No. 148 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Danny Stutsman at pick 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into O'Donnell Fortune at Round 5, Pick 33, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Keon Sabb in slot 171 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Thor Griffith at the 187th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steven Parker at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
