Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Will Howard, the No. 107 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 150th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
If Ritzie pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to the 12th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyleik Williams at pick No. 44, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jayden Higgins at Round 3, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Will Howard at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for JJ Pegues in slot 170, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Jay Higgins in the 172nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Logan Brown at pick 174 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DJ Giddens in No. 190 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Jahvaree Ritzie, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Logan Parr in the 249th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
