The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Nicholas Singleton fell into the Round 5 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Benjamin Morrison at the 58th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Donovan Jackson in pick 65, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Billy Bowman Jr. this early at slot 96. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 102 leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots for later.
Jake Majors in Round 5, Pick 2 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at No. 163 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
