Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 174th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Benjamin Morrison in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Donovan Jackson in slot 56 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Tyleik Williams was the payoff at No. 66. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Danny Stutsman is a better player than pick No. 98 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Billy Bowman Jr. at the 99th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jason Marshall Jr.. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Jake Majors at the 125th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Nicholas Singleton in pick 174 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
