Call it larceny. Ollie Gordon II sat on the board until No. 250, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Mesidor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Warren this early at No. 23. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyleik Williams at slot 54 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Darien Porter higher than the 87th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Savion Williams is a better player than pick No. 122 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Jared Wilson in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick 196 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Akheem Mesidor at the 237th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach Round 7, Pick 34 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
