The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Tre Harris slide 177 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Somehow Jahdae Barron was still sitting there in No. 56, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Walter Nolen in the 88th pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Donovan Jackson slipping to Round 3, Pick 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Ashton Gillotte at the 99th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Daylen Everette at slot 115 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a safety like Billy Bowman Jr. reach pick 133 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 155 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ashton Jeanty at Round 5, Pick 22 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Trey Amos here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at slot 199. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jake Majors at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Sonny Styles in the 250th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
