The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Thor Griffith went at No. 196, a good 85 picks before the board was ready.
On value alone, Mondon Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Benjamin Morrison enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 36. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at slot 70, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Savion Williams at pick No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 24 with a little surplus value in Denzel Burke. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Danny Stutsman still on the board at the 122nd pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Dylan Sampson in the 158th overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Thor Griffith at No. 196 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 237 is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Hunter Wohler in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
