When a board-topper like Taylen Green slides to the 206th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Every board in the league had Klein lower, and that gap is the story. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
In pick No. 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Denzel Boston at pick 39 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christen Miller slipping to No. 70 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Keylan Rutledge at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Charles Demmings at par in slot 146, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Marlin Klein at the 149th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taylen Green at the 206th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Desmond Reid at Round 7, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
