The phones were a trap the Browns kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Sarratt pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If Dunker pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Gennings Dunker a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 70th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Elijah Sarratt at pick 107 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Dametrious Crownover in pick No. 149, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dallen Bentley at No. 206 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Desmond Reid at par in the 248th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
