If confidence were a draft strategy, the Browns would have aced it. Nick Barrett at slot 206 is 48 spots clear of where he belonged.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Denzel Boston in Round 1, Pick 28 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Gennings Dunker at No. 38 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
They took Chris Bell at par in the 39th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Jake Golday, who had no business lasting to pick 70. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Elijah Sarratt at the 107th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Charles Demmings. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dametrious Crownover at No. 149 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Barrett in pick No. 206, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Andre Fuller higher than the 248th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
