Nobody had Jacob Rodriguez this high, and it is not close. The Chiefs reached 32 spots to get him at slot 40.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Payton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenyon Sadiq at the 29th pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jacob Rodriguez. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jadarian Price in pick 74 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Caden Curry at the 109th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Louis Moore in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Aamil Wagner in Round 5, Pick 29 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DJ Campbell in No. 176 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in slot 210: Cole Payton for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
