There is reaching, and then there is Treydan Stukes at the 69th pick. The Cowboys jumped the board by 27 and dared it to prove them wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 18 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid.
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A wild overpay on Jacob Rodriguez in the 49th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Treydan Stukes at pick No. 69, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Darrell Jackson Jr. at No. 99 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Red Murdock at pick 177 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DJ Campbell in pick No. 180 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyren Montgomery at the 216th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaren Kanak at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
