The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jacob Rodriguez, taking him 33 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
Avieon Terrell in pick 24 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Jacob Rodriguez at No. 39, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Treydan Stukes at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick No. 105 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 12: Ja'Kobi Lane for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tim Keenan III in the 152nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Eric Rivers at the 177th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Red Murdock in No. 180; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Miles Kitselman at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
