When a board-topper like Jake Golday slides to the 109th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 29th pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Good price on Dillon Thieneman in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
D'Angelo Ponds in slot 74 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Jake Golday at pick No. 109 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
