Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Dominic Zvada at the 236th overall pick is 65 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lew. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Hit on Christen Miller and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Christen Miller in pick 52, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ted Hurst in Round 3, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Keionte Scott at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Connor Lew in No. 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Jeff Caldwell at slot 160, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Jeremiah Wright in the 201st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Zuhn III in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Dominic Zvada in No. 236 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Vinny Anthony II at slot 255 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The roster fit checks out.
