Somewhere a general manager is explaining how CJ Allen got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
If Roberts pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kadyn Proctor reach pick No. 34 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Zion Young at Round 3, Pick 1 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Avieon Terrell at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
CJ Allen in pick 143 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chase Roberts at slot 183 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
