Boards are made to be trusted, and the Jets shredded theirs for Roderick Kearney. He came off 278 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Concepcion. They have staked the next five years on Drew Allar, which is the only story that really matters here.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In pick 16 they get a matchup problem out wide, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Roderick Kearney in the 33rd pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Caleb Lomu is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gracen Halton. It fills a real need, too.
KC Concepcion in pick No. 140 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Kyle Louis in slot 166 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
