You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Lions did exactly that with PJ Williams in Round 2, Pick 18. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
The Durant steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tacario Davis this early at the 17th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; PJ Williams in pick 50 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kendrick Law at pick No. 118 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Isaiah Jatta, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Jalen Stroman at the 157th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Desmond Reid at slot 181 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 205 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Nadame Tucker all the way to the 213th pick, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zane Durant in No. 222 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
