You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Titans did exactly that with Shawn Murphy in the 66th overall pick. Put together, it is a D+.
The Price pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Eric Rivers in slot 35 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shawn Murphy this early at the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dontay Corleone at No. 101 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dominic Zvada at pick 142 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 5, Pick 4 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jadarian Price at pick No. 184 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Billy Schrauth in Round 6, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jamari Lyons at slot 225 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
