Call it larceny. Jake Slaughter sat on the board until No. 94, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Tucker reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordyn Tyson in Round 1, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In the 30th overall pick they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Nice patience on Brandon Cisse, who had no business lasting to No. 45. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Christen Miller in slot 75 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Jacob Rodriguez was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tight end of that caliber at the 90th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jake Slaughter in pick No. 94 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Skyler Bell at pick 109 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Nadame Tucker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke Altmyer in slot 238 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
