There is conviction, and then there is this. The Buccaneers took Tyreak Sapp a full 33 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Barham pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a security blanket over the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sonny Styles at the 46th pick is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tyreak Sapp at pick 77 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jaishawn Barham at linebacker with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots open.
Mike Washington Jr. at Round 5, Pick 15 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They let Duce Robinson come to them and pounced at No. 195. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bryce Foster in the 229th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
