Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The 49ers never addressed wide receiver, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
Every board in the league had Bisontis lower, and that gap is the story. That Washington Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Caleb Lomu went about where he belonged in the 27th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chase Bisontis at the 58th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Mike Washington Jr. in slot 127, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Davison Igbinosun at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jakobe Thomas in pick 138 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Chris McClellan in Round 4, Pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
