The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Cade Klubnik at pick No. 87 regardless, 48 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Orange pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
In slot 30 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 11, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Connor Lew at pick No. 75. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cade Klubnik at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Max Klare at the 90th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Domonique Orange in the 94th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in No. 130, with Bryce Lance worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Rayshaun Benny went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Terion Stewart at par in slot 227, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaiah Jatta at pick No. 238 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
