Nobody else had Caden Curry anywhere near slot 68. The Eagles did, by 57 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They banked enough surplus on Hecht to cover a lot of smaller sins. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Malachi Lawrence in pick 54 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Caden Curry at No. 68, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Jaishawn Barham at pick No. 98, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Sam Hecht at Round 4, Pick 22 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on DeMonte Capehart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the 153rd overall pick, where Charles Demmings graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nate Boerkircher at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Kaelon Black in pick 215, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
